A shocking 38 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament were absent in the chamber when the Minister of Finance presented a paper on March 18, 2025.

This prompted Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to claim that they had abandoned their duties to seek positions at Jubilee House.

He also raised concerns about the administration’s priorities and the accountability of its officials.

According to him, the absence of the NDC MPs is not an isolated incident, as they are known to attend Parliament only on ceremonial days. This pattern has led to them being dubbed the “Ceremonial Majority by Afenyo-Markin.”

“Mr. Speaker, this morning they populated the chamber; all of a sudden, they are all out. This is the time the finance minister is set to lay a paper. Look at the empty seats! They have left again, going to look for jobs at Jubilee House. They should come to the chamber of Parliament and work. Look at all the empty seats—you are 38 in number, a ceremonial majority,” Afenyo-Markin stated.

As President John Mahama’s administration continues to face scrutiny, the absence of NDC MPs from Parliament has raised concerns about their commitment to their duties and its impact on governance.
