Iconic Italian manager, Carlo Ancelotti has named retired Ghanaian footballer, Michael Essien as one of the best midfielders he has managed in his coaching career.

The FC Nordsjaelland assistant manager played under the legendary coach at Chelsea during the 2009/2010 season and performed brilliantly throughout his tenure.

Essien’s ability to control the ball, win possession, and calm tensions in high-stakes matches won the hearts of many fans who watched him play.

The former Real Madrid manager listed midfield greats such as Andrea Pirlo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Frank Lampard, and others among his favorite players.

Speaking in an interview with Gary Lineker, Ancelotti stated that these world-class players made his coaching job easier and helped him win trophies.

When asked to name the best midfielders he had coached, the Brazil national team coach responded: “Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Casemiro, Lampard, Ballack, Essien, Vidal, Gattuso and Seedorf.”

Ancelotti, a former AC Milan coach, worked with Essien during his two-year stint at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea manager.

Chelsea thrived in the 2009/2010 season, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield, with Essien playing a pivotal role in their success.
