President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to commission the Cardinal Namdini Mining project, the largest gold mining company in the northern part of the country, in the first week of November 2024.

This was announced by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, during his visit to the company on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

He mentioned that the move marks a significant occasion in harnessing the country’s mineral resources.

Addressing the media after the visit, Abu Jinapor said Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd., situated in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, will not only be the third-largest mining company in the country but also serve as a prominent player in Africa.

In addition to the economic contributions of the project, the minister touched on the employment opportunities and developmental projects in the Talensi area.

“This is the first large-scale gold mine in the North, which is truly historic. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will commission this mine in the first week of November and pour the first gold at the Cardinal Namdini project. It will be the third-largest mine in our country and one of the largest in Africa.

“It will further solidify Ghana’s status as a leading gold producer in the world and strengthen its position as the mining hub of Africa. This is the first greenfield gold mine project in almost a decade. It was built from scratch, and I’m here to witness the progress of work. This is a significant and exciting moment.

“It is a major project that will greatly contribute to our national economy. I want to thank the company’s leadership, the Ministry, the Minerals Commission led by Mr. Martin Ayisi, and all those who have contributed to bringing this project to fruition,” he explained.

He commended the company’s management and staff for their consistency since the project’s inception and praised his Ministry and the Minerals Commission for their roles in establishing the company.

Providing further details on the project, Steve Ofori, Project Manager at Cardinal Namdini Mining said the company has invested in world-class and modern mining equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety protocols.

He also mentioned that the company has received approvals from all relevant regulators, including the Environmental Protection Agency.

Before visiting the mining firm’s site, Samuel Abu Jinapor and his delegation from the Ministry and Minerals Commission paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Kugbilsong Nanlebeglang.

The Paramount Chief described the establishment of the mining firm as a game-changer for the area and the country, expressing confidence that the company will fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility agreement and mine in an environmentally friendly manner.

He is optimistic that the youth in the area will benefit from significant employment opportunities and that the region will experience substantial development.
