Hon. George Justice Arthur secured an overwhelming vote from the General Assembly to be confirmed as the new Mayor of Cape Coast.
All Sixty-six (66) members of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly present at the Assembly’s Special Meeting held on April 17, 2025, voted YES to confirm him as the President’s Nominee for the position of Mayor of Cape Coast.
According to the Section 20 (1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), the nominee needed approval from at least two-thirds of the Assembly members to vote in his favour
Hon. Ekow Panyin Edumoah, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan (MP, Cape Coast South and Deputy Majority Leader), Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu (Central Regional Chairman, NDC with some of his Executives) as well as Mr. Gabriel Nii Commey Adams (Central Regional Secretary, NDC) and other dignitaries were present to grace the occasion .
