    The GFA, in collaboration with FIFA, under the Women’s Football Development programmes will equip female Catch Them Young (CTY) Referees as part of the League Development programme implementation. The major programme: League Development is a sustainable growth in girls’ and women’s football, which focuses on supporting and introducing new competition: U15 Girl’s Regional Colts Leagues in all the ten football regions.

    A capacity building for CTY female referees to create a safe and structured environment in which the players and the referees can continue to develop and enjoy the game will commence this weekend.

    The capacity building course for the CTY female referees will aim at helping to detail the pathways, educate to enhance, and the retention for the development of women’s football in Ghana. The event is scheduled in two batches

    1. Batch One is from 4th to 12 October 2025 for the CTY female referees who will be officiating the Elite U15 Championship at Prampram as well.
    2. Batch Two will be from 14 to 19th October and the officiating of the Elite U-17 Girls Championship at Prampram as well.

    The GFA Referees Manager, Referee Instructors, Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, the lead coordinator of the programme and the Head of GFA Women’s Football Development, Bernice Bempah Safeguarding Officer and Barbara Yankah of the Competitions Department will take the girls through:

    1. Physical Fitness Preparation/Check
    2. Physical Conditioning/Practical Refereeing
    3. GFA Women’s Football Strategy
    4. GFA Safeguarding ethics
    5. GFA Women’s Competitions
    6. Penalty Area Incident
    7. Game Management
    8. Tactical Fouls, LOTG 25-26 Amendment, Hand Ball
    9. Positioning & Reading (Modern Refereeing)
    10. Challenges/Video Analysis.

    The course which will begin this weekend is to enhance and equip the capacity of these young referees to achieve the highest standards and the essential knowledge, skills, Practicals needed to run the U-15 Girls Colts League marking a significant step towards professionalism and sustainability in women’s football.
