The Chargé d’affaires and Head of Cooperation at the High Commission of Canada, Francoise Nduwimana, has expressed Canada’s readiness to welcome teams and supporters for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at a ceremony marking Black History Month last Friday, Madam Nduwimana said Canadians were eager to host the Ghana national team for their opening matches in Toronto and Vancouver. She noted that the tournament, which Canada will co-host, presents an opportunity to celebrate football’s unifying power and the global impact of Black excellence in the sport.

The event was attended by former Black Stars players, including Tony Baffoe and Sammy Kuffour. Madam Nduwimana highlighted Canada’s longstanding observance of Black History Month and acknowledged the support of local partners in organizing the celebration.

She also pointed to the contributions of players of Ghanaian descent to Canadian football and underscored the role of migrant communities in shaping the sport’s growth in Canada. Football, she said, continues to serve as a powerful tool for integration, identity and social cohesion.
