United States of America president, Donald Trump has expressed his desire to keep the World Cup trophy at the White House prior to the 2026 tournament.
FIFA president, Gianni Infantino visited the Oval Office to present the 2026 World Cup trophy to Trump and solicit his support during the competition.
In the course of the meeting, it was announced that the World Cup draw will be held on December 5, 2025, at Washington’s Kennedy Center.
Infantino carried the World Cup trophy into the Oval Office, breaking a superstition that only past winners should touch it, “It’s for winners only,” he said before handing it to Trump.

The president fumbled momentarily before placing it on his desk.
“That’s a beautiful piece of gold. Can I keep it?” Trump said, referring to the World Cup trophy. “It’s the biggest, probably the biggest event in sports,” he added, with Infantino responding with a smile.
The 79-year-old US President also used the event to tout his federal crime crackdown in Washington, where he has deployed the National Guard and taken control of the city’s police force.
“It’s going to be very safe. Gianni, you can walk down the street with your beautiful wife … if you can get a reservation,” he noted.
