The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that its duties are not only limited to putting out fire outbreaks, but it includes other emergencies.

The service said that, aside from dealing with fire outbreaks, it deals with providing services for persons entrapped in elevators, victims of road crashes, among others.

Head of Public Relations, Mr. Desmond Ackah, disclosed that the personnel from the GNFS are well trained to attend to all emergency situations when they are called on their emergency lines.

Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Rainbow 87.5FM, he asserted that the majority of Ghanaians only see them as firefighters, but beyond the firefighting, they are also into providing other emergency services.

He said the GNFS is there to serve, and whenever people are in urgent need of their services, all they need to do is call 112, 192, and the hotline 0302772446.

“We don’t only deal with fire outbreaks. Our duties include other emergencies. If you are entrapped in an elevator, involved in an accident, or in other emergencies, we are there to provide our services. You just have to call the emergency numbers, and within five minutes, we would be there,” he said.

He reiterated the GNFS commitment in dealing with outbreaks, admonishing the public to call them only when there is an emergency and avoid prank calling them.

“No matter where the fire outbreak occurred or where the emergency is located, we are equipped and trained to respond to all cases when you call us on time. If you contact the emergency numbers and do not prank us, we should arrive within five minutes, depending on where the incident occurred and the nearest fire station, and give the services the people require.”
