Senegal won the 2025 AFCON

The Confederation of African Football is set to deliver its verdict within 48 hours after summoning key members of Senegal’s national team over explosive scenes during the AFCON 2025 final against Morocco.

The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed that head coach Pape Thiaw appeared before the CAF Disciplinary Committee alongside players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr to defend themselves.

The summons stem from referees’ reports and observations submitted by the Moroccan Football Federation following the chaotic closing moments of the final in Rabat.

Tensions erupted in the last minutes of stoppage time. Senegal believed they had scored a decisive goal, only for it to be ruled out by the referee.

The decision sparked fury among the players and technical bench. Just minutes later, Morocco were awarded a penalty, a call that pushed emotions over the edge.

In protest, Thiaw was seen urging his players to leave the pitch. The Senegalese team walked off, momentarily throwing the final into uncertainty and stunning the crowd inside the stadium.

It reportedly took the intervention of Sadio Mané to calm his teammates and persuade them to return to the field.

Senegal regrouped and in a dramatic twist, went on to score and secure the victory.

CAF’s decision, expected within 48 hours, could determine whether the dramatic protest carries disciplinary repercussions for the African champions.
