The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the official list of referees and match officials selected to undergo training ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The intensive course will be held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 8 to November 13, 2025, as part of CAF’s efforts to ensure top officiating standards for the continental showpiece in December.

Among the officials named, Ghana’s Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea stands tall as the only Ghanaian referee selected for the AFCON 2025 preparation course.

Laryea, one of Africa’s most experienced referees, has consistently represented Ghana at major CAF and FIFA tournaments, including the CHAN, CAF Champions League, and World Cup qualifiers.

His inclusion underscores his growing reputation as one of the continent’s elite match officials.

CAF’s list features several renowned names across Africa, including Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria), Bamlak Tessema Weyesa (Ethiopia), Jean-Jacques Ndala Ngambo (DR Congo), and Redouane Jiyed (Morocco).

Others, such as Ahmed Nagy Mosa Mahmoud (Egypt), Traore Boucoub (Mali), and Pacifique Ndabihawenimana (Burundi) are also set to take part in the Cairo training program.

Notably, no Nigerian referee made the list, marking the second consecutive AFCON without an official from Africa’s most populous nation.

The preparation course will include physical fitness tests, theoretical assessments, and practical simulations designed to sharpen referees’ consistency, game management, and use of VAR technology ahead of the Morocco 2025 tournament.

Laryea’s selection is another proud moment for Ghanaian officiating, cementing his place among the continent’s most respected referees.
