Désiré Noumandiez Doue has been dismissed as CAF Director of Refereeing Désiré Noumandiez Doue has been dismissed as CAF Director of Refereeing

The Director of Refereeing at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Désiré Noumandiez Doué, has been dismissed following the controversy over officiating in the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.

Although Noumandiez Doué was not the center referee for the final, he appointed the referee for the final match based on their performance assessments.

    About the petition

CAF is expected to take drastic action against Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa, who officiated the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.

According to a report by Morocco World News, the referee’s decision to initially grant Morocco a penalty when the score was tied at 2-2 was deemed incorrect, prompting the demand for action.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) claimed Twanyanyukwa’s decisions were considered “referee injustice,” calling on CAF to review the incident and possibly suspend the official.

CAF has yet to respond to the petition after a thorough review of the request.

During Morocco’s final game against Nigeria, the referee awarded a penalty in favour of the host nation after suspecting a handball by Oluwatosin Demehin in the box.

However, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) reviewed the incident and advised Twanyanyukwa to take a second look.

The Namibian referee subsequently overturned the penalty decision after realising Demehin’s arm was close to her body.

In a shocking turn of events, the Super Falcons scored the third goal through Jennifer Echegini, giving them a 3-2 win and sealing their title.
