Mohamed Salah has cemented his status as Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah has cemented his status as Liverpool legend

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed its support for Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah amid the wave of criticism he has faced.

Salah said he had been “thrown under a bus” and had no relationship with Arne Slot after being left on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

It was the third successive game in which Salah had been excluded from the starting line-up by Slot amid the forward’s dip in form this season.

The player was also dropped from the squad that beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League, with coach Arne Slot explaining that it was part of measures being taken to address the situation.

In the midst of controversy and backlash, CAF took to its social media handle to hail Salah’s footballing legacy as one that will remain in the history books for a long period.

“Class is forever, see you at TotalEnergiesAFCON2025 Mo,” CAF posted on its official X handle on December 9, 2025.

Meanwhile, reports from England indicate that Liverpool’s management are taking steps to address the impasse before Salah departs for the AFCON in Morocco.

The Liverpool legend will face the huge task of leading Egypt to clinch the 2025 AFCON trophy, which has eluded the team since 2010.
