Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four-match suspension by CAF
Cameroonian football legend and current FA president, Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four-match suspension and a $20,000 fine by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following alleged misconduct during Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final against Morocco on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Reports state the ruling comes amid heightened scrutiny of the match, in which Eto’o was seen gesturing angrily toward Moroccan FA chief Fouzi Lekjaa while CAF president Patrice Motsepe watched from nearby.
FECAFOOT has questioned the sanction, describing it as lacking clear justification and raising concerns over the expedited disciplinary process.
In a statement, CAF said: “The CAF Disciplinary Board charged Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT) President Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils with misconduct following the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 fixture between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat, on 09 January 2026.

The CAF Disciplinary Board found Mr Eto’o guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship set out in Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes and Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for his misconduct during the said match.
The CAF Disciplinary Board imposed a stadium ban on Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils for the next four (4) official CAF matches played in the context of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025.
The CAF DC also imposed a fine of USD 20,000. CAF will make no further comment on the matter.”
FECAFOOT, however, maintains its full support for Eto’o and criticized the process as falling short of basic due process standards, highlighting ongoing tension between African football authorities and member federations over disciplinary procedures.
