Richard Akpokavie, the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has lauded the CAA Region II Seniors Athletics Championships as a crucial platform for Ghanaian athletes to showcase their talent and prepare for global competitions.
Speaking after the championships, Akpokavie stressed the importance of such events in the growth of athletes, stating “It was a very good competition, giving young athletes the opportunity to compete. It’s always good because if you only train without competing, it’s not enough. You need to compete to know whether your training is effective, and then you can improve where necessary.”
He also continued that “We should be alarmed, with Nigeria, because they invest in sports more than we do, so what we should be doing is to push the government to support as well”.
Richard Akpokavie also added that the event delivers a springboard for Ghanaian athletes as they prepare for upcoming international competitions, including the Olympics.
