Longtime Las Vegas boxing insider Butch Gottlieb passed away at the age of 84. He was a highly respected, universally liked, and deeply influential fixture in the boxing community for nearly three decades. He was especially revered as a passionate pioneer and pillar for the growth of women’s professional boxing.
Gottlieb did not fight inside the ring as a boxer; instead, he dedicated his life to the sport as a multitalented executive and media figure.
He was the creator and publisher of the prominent specialized portal Boxing In Las Vegas. Alongside his partner— the award-winning boxing photojournalist Mary Ann Lurie Owen—he spent decades providing extensive media coverage of the Las Vegas fight scene.
He served the sport officially as a Nevada Athletic Commission boxing inspector.
Gottlieb was an integral, constant presence at the International Women’s Boxing Hall of Fame (IWBHF) and the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame (NVBHOF), helping organize, run, and support induction events since their inception.
Gottlieb was a prominent fighter manager. He operated through his own management firm, Infinity Boxing LLC. He was widely known for looking after both male and female fighters, intentionally utilizing his media resources to ensure his female athletes received maximum exposure. Some of the notable fighters he managed over his career include:
Chevelle Hallback — A multi-time women’s world champion whom Gottlieb famously managed during major fights, including her high-profile bout against Holly Holm.
Olivia Gerula — The former WBC female super featherweight champion, whom he signed to Infinity Boxing.
TaTina “Lil Tyson” Anderson — A Las Vegas prospect whom Gottlieb signed in 2010.
Shakeel Phinn — NABF super middleweight champion
Laura Serrano — International Boxing Hall-of-Famer
