The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has begun the repatriation process for eight foreign nationals who were convicted for engaging in illegal QNET-related activities in Ghana.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, the Service said the individuals, who were arrested in August 2025, were convicted on 9 September 2025 and have since completed their six-month custodial sentences at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

“The Ghana Immigration Service wishes to inform the general public that eight foreign nationals arrested for engaging in illegal QNET-related activities have completed their custodial sentences and are currently being processed for repatriation,” the statement said.

According to the GIS, the ex-convicts, nationals of Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Togo have been transferred to the Immigration Service Holding Centre in Accra, where they are being held in lawful custody pending deportation to their respective home countries.

“The repatriation process has already commenced, with most of the individuals returned to their countries of origin…the remaining three Burkinabé nationals are scheduled to be deported by the end of the week.”

“We encourage the public to continue supporting the Service by reporting any suspicious activities of foreigners in their communities to the appropriate law enforcement agencies,” the statement said.

The Service also issued a caution to landlords and property owners, reminding them of their legal obligations under Ghana’s immigration laws.

“The Service particularly urges landlords and property owners to exercise due diligence when renting their properties to foreign nationals, as harbouring illegal immigrants constitutes an offence under Section 52(1)(b) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573),” the statement stressed.

The statement was signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Immigration and Head of the Public Affairs Department, Maud Anima Quainoo.
