Popular Ghanaian boxer Braimah Kamoko, also known as Bukom Banku, has been in the news over the past week for the wrong reasons.

Known for his humorous dance moves and controversial statements, Bukom Banku has had several altercations during and after his boxing career, particularly with women, some of which have led to his arrest.

Just last week, a video surfaced online showing the 1999 African Games bronze medalist allegedly fighting a woman in Bukom.

Although Bukom Banku has since released a video denying that he hit the woman, he could face police custody again, as many citizens are calling for his arrest.

If arrested, this would not be the first time the veteran boxer has been in trouble with the law, as he has previously been arrested on multiple occasions for similar offenses.

Below are some instances where the former WBO African Light Heavyweight Champion found himself in police custody:

January 2015 – Arrested for causing mayhem at a gathering

In January 2015, during the ‘Kpashimo’ procession at Gbese in Accra, Bukom Banku reportedly inflicted physical harm on several individuals following a disagreement.

This incident occurred when the procession planned to chant against the boxer’s fetish priestess wife, Amoah Woyoo (known by her fetish name Ohua Broni).

Tensions between the families, unwilling to have their annual ritual disrupted by the boxer, led to the reported fracas.

March 2016 – Assaulting three women

In March 2016, Bukom Banku made headlines again, this time for allegedly assaulting three women. According to reports, one of the women refused his sexual advances, which escalated into violence.

The then Accra Regional Police Commander, ASP Afia Tenge, revealed that the boxer was granted bail after paying GH¢5,000 with two sureties but was still processed for court.

    August 2016 – Assaulting a hairdresser

Five months later, in August 2016, Bukom Banku was arrested again. Reports indicate that on August 11, 2016, he slapped Martha, a hairdresser in Chorkor, Accra, and punched her in the right rib.

Additionally, the boxer reportedly damaged her mobile phone. He was charged with assault and unlawful damage. However, Martha later dropped the charges, allowing Bukom Banku to walk free.

    March 2017 – Verbally busing a Woman

On March 4, 2017, Bukom Banku verbally abused and threatened a woman named Ida in Accra.

According to reports, the incident occurred after Bukom Banku’s daughter went to Ida’s shop to request money but was denied. This angered the boxer, leading to a heated exchange of words with Ida.

Bukom Banku refused to cooperate with the police and was summoned to court. However, the case was settled out of court, with the judge issuing a warning for him to desist from abusing women.
