Ghanaian boxer, Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has called on president John Dramani Mahama to transform the Bukom Astroturf into a mini stadium.
He stated that many footballing activities take place in the vicinity and it would be prudent to refurbish the Astroturf to unearth more talents.
The former African boxing champion disclosed that he has been maintaining the Astroturf by hiring people to keep it in shape, using funding from gate proceeds when there are activities.

“The proceeds from the gate are kept for maintenance. I have been taking care of it. Someone has been assigned to keep the washroom intact, as well as manage the rubbish on the compound. It’s been six months since I started this job, and I pay the people,” he said during an interview with Asempa FM on September 9, 2025.
The retired boxer went ahead to appeal to President Mahama to name the facility after him to honor his legacy in the country for his boxing exploits.

He believes this will help elevate the standards of sporting infrastructure, as the government mentioned in its manifesto prior to the 2024 general elections.
“So, I want President Mahama to upgrade it [Bukom Astroturf] to a small stadium and name it after me. If I say it on social media, he might hear it. I haven’t seen him since he became president. I am appealing to the president to upgrade the Astroturf and honor me by naming it ‘Bukom Banku Astroturf,’” he added.
