Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged a new generation of filmmakers and actors to prioritise meaningful, high-quality content over mere visibility.
Speaking at the opening of the inaugural Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025, the vice president addressed industry professionals from across Ghana and Africa, framing the creative sector as a vital engine for job creation, cultural influence, and economic growth.
Addressing young creatives, the vice president described their talents as a “national and continental asset.”
She said, “To our young creatives. Your talents are needed. Strive not just for visibility, but for sustainability. And remember that your talent is a national and continental asset. We value you very, very much.”

Prof Opoku-Agyemang also urged institutions to foster supportive environments built through education and intellectual property protection to safeguard creative works.
“To our institutions, we must continue to create supporting environments, those that foster creativity through education, training, funding, practice, infrastructure, and of course intellectual property protection too, so that their outputs are well protected,” she added.
Commending the filmmakers, investors, and sponsors present, she concluded that the industry deserves sustained support not only because “film is beautiful” but because it is deeply meaningful, especially when connected to real markets and upheld by professionalism and quality.
The Regal Film Festival and Awards is a pan-African platform that celebrates excellence, innovation, and cultural storytelling in African cinema.
It honors outstanding talents across various categories, featuring film screenings, panel discussions, masterclasses, and a Culture Night showcasing African heritage.
