Gorham Wins IBF North American Title In Main Event
WBC female featherweight champ Tiara Brown had things pretty much her own way, all the way, as she dominated Frenchwoman Emma Gongora over 10 hard fought rounds. Gongora came out more active than Brown in the first round, but Brown listened to her corner and picked up the pace for the rest of the fight. Brown outworked Gongora, landing hard shots but was never able to put her foe down. The judges saw it: 100-90 and 98-92 twice all for Brown, who retains her WBC female featherweight title for the first time and improves to 20-0, 11 KOs. Gongora falls to 10-4-1, 1 KO.
Houston’s own Breyon “Grimdtime” Gorham dominated Puerto Rico’s Yomar “The Magic” Alamo over 10 rounds. Gorham overcame a cut on his right cheek bone in the first round, to employ bodywork on Alamo, slowing him down over the course of the fight and opening up multiple shots to the head. The judges saw it: 99-91 twice and 98-92, all for Gorham, who picked up the IBF North American Junior welterweight title and defeated his toughest opponent to date. He improves to 21-0, 16 KOs while Alamo falls to 22-5-1, 13 KOs.
