A British woman been arrested on suspicion of strangling her female friend to death with a vacuum cleaner cable during an argument while the pair were on holiday in Benidorm.

Police rushed round to the apartment where the row took place but it was too late and the victim, a 66-year-old from the UK, was already dead by the time they arrived.

The alleged killer, 64, is understood to have confessed to the murder after she was taken away from the scene by cops.

Local reports said the dead woman was found with the hoover cable still round her neck.

An initial post-mortem has confirmed she was strangled.

It is not yet clear when the suspect, who has not been named, will be hauled before a judge.

A spokesman for National Police, confirming the arrest, said today: ‘A woman aged 64 has been arrested on suspicion of killing another 66-year-old woman, both from the UK.

‘The investigation is ongoing and at the moment we can’t give out any more information.’
