Bridge Power Co. Ltd and N-Gas Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to supplying gas to Ghana following successful negotiations with the government to settle outstanding arrears.

Government Secures Gas Supply Amid Payment Challenges

Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor announced that both companies have resumed operations after discussions aimed at addressing payment delays.

“I am happy to announce to you that they (Bridge Power Co. Ltd) are back online. We have also been able to work and negotiate with them, and gas supply has resumed and is increasing from N-Gas,” Jinapor stated.

However, he emphasized the need for additional funding to procure more fuel and keep the power sector running smoothly.

    Background on the Crisis

🔹 Early Power Limited (EPL) Shutdown: The company halted operations due to ECG’s failure to clear seven months of payments. In response, the minister directed EPL to be classified as a Tier 1 power producer, ensuring priority payments.

🔹 N-Gas Supply Suspension Threat: The company had notified the Volta River Authority (VRA) of plans to suspend gas supply starting March 6 over arrears exceeding $75 million, citing an inability to pay suppliers and transporters since November 2024.

    Sector Outlook

The recent government intervention has reassured stakeholders, easing fears of potential disruptions in Ghana’s power sector. However, financial constraints remain a critical challenge, requiring sustainable funding solutions to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.
