Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has been detained by officials of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), according to his lawyers.

His detention on December 3, 2025, followed his appearance at the office of the Special Prosecutor based on an invitation.

According to his legal team, he was arrested on allegations that he obstructed an OSP officer during the visit.

Kpebu had gone there to meet investigators over his recent corruption claims against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.

According to a 3news.com report, Kpebu challenged the makeup of the investigative panel and demanded what he called an “independently constituted” committee.

“They kept making me appear before subordinates. Subordinates can’t investigate their boss. It’s incompetence,” he is quoted as saying.

One of his lawyers, Marcellinus Biah, told TV3’s News360 that Kpebu was taken away suddenly. “They whisked him off. As we speak, we don’t know where Mr. Kpebu is,” he said.

Kpebu has in recent weeks intensified his criticism of the Special Prosecutor, accusing him of contradicting himself in matters involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

On TV3’s The KeyPoints, he insisted that the OSP’s claim that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) refused to assist in the attempted arrest of Ofori-Atta had been exposed as untrue.

“The head of an anti-corruption agency cannot lie to citizens, run down state institutions without evidence, and still expect to hold office. If this was a slip, he should have admitted it. The fact that he keeps defending it shows it was deliberate,” he said.

He said he independently checked the OSP’s assertions by speaking to current and former NIB officials, and none confirmed receiving a request.

He also pointed to a written response from the NIB dated November 27, 2025, which said plainly that the Bureau “did not receive any formal request for assistance to arrest Ofori-Atta.”
