An emotional brawl has erupted in a Cincinnati courtroom after a man who killed a teenage boy was handed a light sentence following a plea deal.

Latrelle Rogers, 20, was sentenced to 12 to 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty over the death of Edwin ‘Myzell’ Arrington, 17, on New Year’s Day in 2024.

Rogers was handed a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter after Arrington was shot dead in the University Heights neighborhood at around 2am.

As Rogers was sentenced on Tuesday, a family member told him, ‘Love you,’ Fox 19 caught on video.

But Arrington’s family angrily called out, ‘F*** you.’

Chaos erupted in the courtroom as Rogers was escorted out and the fight spilled into the hallway.

WLWT reporter Karin Johnson reported that witnesses described the scene as ‘insane’ in a post on X.

Christopher McDowell, Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judge, told the outlet that the fight was ‘so loud it disturbed proceedings in my courtroom.’

‘I saw multiple people being arrested and not complying with deputies’ orders,’ he added.

McDowell said he was forced to cancel the rest of the cases he had scheduled for that morning. The courthouse was temporarily shut down due to the brawl, the outlet reported.

Kyla Woods, Hamilton County Sheriff’s public information officer, confirmed to Fox that multiple people had been cited for the disturbance.

It remains unclear if anyone was arrested or cited back to court.

Arrington’s mother has posted repeatedly online grieving her son’s devastating death.

‘Myzell was a young gentleman who cared for his family and his loved ones,’ a tribute said of Arrington.

‘When he lost his life to gun violence their family will never be the same without him and his beautiful smile that lights the room up when he walks in.

‘That’s why we are gonna get justice for our baby and we not going to quit until we get justice.’

Arrington was found with multiple gunshot wounds at around 6am after his mother called emergency services, Fox 19 reported.

A neighbor told the outlet at the time that they had heard a woman screaming, ‘Oh my god, Oh my god. Why was he here? Why was he here?’

Rogers, who was 19 at the time, was arrested on May 22 later that year for Arrington’s murder.

A criminal complaint obtained by the outlet said Rogers had used a semi-automatic pistol during the incident.

But eight days later, former Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers suggested that Rogers had been indicted on two counts of murder and two counts of felonious assault.

In Ohio, murder holds a minimum sentence of 15 years to life and felony assault holds a sentence of two to eight years.

Rogers is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center, according to jail records.
