With seven events on three continents, over 20 title fights and an exceptional density of internationally ranked boxers, AGON Sports looks back on one of the most successful years in its history.

In total, AGON Sports was responsible for seven events, five of which took place abroad. Two events were held in Cuba, and the company also participated in international WBA events in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Madrid (Spain), and Benghazi (Libya). AGON also made a strong showing in Germany: In Neu-Ulm, five-time former world champion Felix Sturm returned to the ring in front of 4,200 spectators, and in September another event followed at Berlin’s Uber Eats Music Hall, focusing on title fights and developing its own young talent.

“This combination of international presence and national roots is currently unique in German boxing,” says promoter and AGON CEO Ingo Volckmann. The two events in Cuba held particular historical significance. For the first time since the 1960s, professional boxing was possible again on the island. AGON Sports thus made boxing history and simultaneously created a new platform for exceptional Cuban athletes in the professional ranks.

From a sporting perspective, the year was marked by title fights at almost every level – from national championships to international WBA and WBO titles, all the way to the absolute top of the world rankings. The highlight was the unified world title fight between William Scull and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the WBA, IBF, WBO, and WBC titles in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – one of the biggest boxing venues in the world. The involvement of a German promoter in one of the biggest boxing matches in the world impressively underscored AGON Sports’ international standing.

Julio Cesar La Cruz made another sporting statement. After his victory in the WBA Final Eliminator in April against Dilan Prasovic, the exceptional Cuban athlete was officially named the mandatory challenger for the WBA Bridgerweight World Championship, thus moving directly into contention for the world title.

In parallel, AGON Sports made targeted investments in athletic talent, signing several of the world’s most decorated boxers. With La Cruz, Erislandy Alvarez, Lazaro Alvarez, Arlen Lopez, and Sofiane Oumiha, AGON brought Olympic champions, world-class amateurs, and international titleholders into its stable, sustainably raising the sporting standard.

AGON Sports also made a strong statement at the national level. The two Berlin boxers, Hamsat Shadalov and Paul Wall, celebrated their first title wins at the international and national levels respectively in 2025, thus confirming the success of their youth development program.

The sporting depth of the AGON stable is impressively reflected in the world rankings. Several boxers are ranked in the top 10 or top 15 of the major sanctioning bodies, including Julio Cesar La Cruz, Arlen Lopez, William Scull, Vincenzo Gualtieri, Etinosa Oliha, Erislandy and Lazaro Alvarez, as well as Moussa Gholam.

The outlook for the coming year underlines the sporting ambition: On January 10, heavyweight Granit Shala will face Petar Milas at the Agit-Kabayel Homecoming, while super middleweight William Scull will compete against Jacob Banks in Denmark on January 31.

Ingo Volckmann: “In my opinion, we not only delivered a convincing sporting performance in 2025, but also firmly established German professional boxing on the international stage and made boxing history with our first Cuba event. Our fighters were in demand both nationally and internationally, and we celebrated great successes. I would like to thank all the fans, partners, the team, and the athletes for this special year. In 2026, we’ll pick up right where we left off in 2025! With the big fights featuring Granit Shala at the Kabayel event and William Scull in Denmark in an important ranking fight, we’re raising the bar again right in January!”
