Renowned Mexican fighter Yair Rodriguez (11-4) has announced he will not be able to step into the ring to face Jean Silva (6-1) in their scheduled featherweight bout at a UFC event on September 12 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Rodriguez was making a comeback from right hand surgery back in October 2025. Rodriguez took to his social media accounts, explaining that he tried to push through his training regimen but that it would be irresponsible to continue trying to compete under those conditions.
José Delgado (4-1) will now face Silva in a five-round main event.
Rodriguez was looking to return to the ring in his first fight since April 2025, his second fight since February 2024, making this his third fight in three years.
This UFC event will feature prominent Mexican fighters such as Alexa Grasso and Brandon Moreno.
