    By Boxing Bob Newman

While in Dublin, Ireland for the week-long festivities culminating in the epic Katie Taylor farewell fight at the legendary Croke Park, Fightnews.com took a jaunt up to Larne, Northern Ireland, to catch up with former IBF Flyweight champion Dave “Boy” McAuley. The former champ talked about his unlikely rise in boxing, his title run of five successful defenses between 1989-1992 and why he walked away from the sport, one fight sooner than planned.

*Editor’s note: When discussing McAuley’s final fight, the rematch against Colombia’s Rodolfo Blanco, it was incorrectly assumed that one point was incorrectly missing from McAuley’s score on all three judges’ cards (115-112, 114-113, 114-113). When researching McAuley’s various title fights on BoxRec, there appeared to be no point deductions for knockdowns, fouls, etc. When editing footage for the opening segment of this video, it was discovered that Blanco was deducted a point for low blows in the ninth round. Without the deduction, the scores would’ve been 116-112, 115-113, 115-113, so there was no scandalous “missing points” after all.
