WBC#6 super bantam Sebastian Hernandez (23-1, 19 KOs), 125, eked out a split decision (97-93, 98-92, and 94-96) over WBA#7 featherweight Kyonosuke Kameda (16-7-2, 9 KOs), 125.75, over ten give-and-take rounds on Wednesday in Osaka, Japan. Kameda, who lately upset John Riel Casimero on points this October, made a good start with sharp jabs, but it was Hernandez that kept on stalking the footworker with his persistent combinations upstairs and downstairs. Kyonosuke scored with effective combos in round eight, but Sebastian showed a last surge to demonstrate his abundant stamina to seize an important triumph. Hernandez had displayed a game performance against three-division champ Junto Nakatani though losing a close but unanimous decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last December.
