22-year-old prospect Kevin Gómez (10-0, 9 KOs) defeated 33-year-old Santiago Fernández (9-4-1, 4 KOs) via a stunning fifth-round knockout to become the new Argentine super middleweight champion. The bout took place at the FAB (Argentine Boxing Federation) Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina as part of a five-fight professional card.
From the opening bell, Kevin Facundo Gómez applied constant pressure on Fernández. Fernández stayed active, utilizing his height and reach to throw frequent punches and keep Gómez at bay, until Gómez managed to close the distance. He landed a powerful right hand at mid-range, bringing the fight to an impressive end in the fifth round. Fernández had previously been undefeated in Argentina, while Gómez’s only non-knockout victory had come via disqualification.
