One of the most prestigious events on the boxing calendar officially returns on Saturday, December 12, as Matchroom Boxing, in partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, stage Monte-Carlo Showdown VII.
Taking place at the stunning Salle des Étoiles, Sporting Monte-Carlo, the exclusive fight night has seen some of the sport’s biggest names shine under the glitz, glamour and bright lights of the Principality in the past, including the likes of Dmitry Bivol, Gennady Golovkin, Joe Cordina and Derek Chisora.
Last year, the brilliant, 15-0 Shabaz Masoud – who returns to action next week at Manchester’s Co-op Live against Ckari Cani Mansilla for the vacant IBF Intercontinental Featherweight Title – defeated Liverpool’s Peter McGrail for the European Super Bantamweight belt in a memorable main event.
The undercard saw Elif Nur Turhan celebrate her crowning glory when she captured the IBF World Lightweight Championship in spectacular style when she stopped Brazil’s Olympic hero Beatriz Ferreira, whilst British Welterweight king Conah Walker upset Team GB Tokyo 2020 Olympic Silver Medallist Pat McCormack with a dramatic 12th-round demolition.
And this year promises to deliver even more excitement with Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn insisting the event will see some huge fights for its seventh instalment.
“Our annual Monte-Carlo Showdown is one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures in the sport and we cannot wait to return to the Principality this December,” said Hearn.
“As always, it will be a special spectacle, with a host of big fights lighting up the card – all live on the Global Home of Boxing, DAZN.
