38-year old Argentinian Adrian “La Cobrita” Rueda (40-3) won the vacant WBO I-C super lightweight title last night in Oulu (Finland) by stopping local hero Elias “White Tiger” Okkonen (11-1-1) in the fifth round of a scheduled ten rounder.
Okkonen did well early on but Rueda floored him twice in the fourth round and twice more in the fifth and it was stopped.
Rueda showed there is still life while Okkonen is young enough to come back even though it was a bad loss.
In the chief support Swedish super middle Erick Mendoza (5-0) outscored Finnish-American Savon Suroosh (better than his record of 0-3-1) in a six rounder. It was scored 60-53 twice and 59-54.
