Jr. Middles Bobbi Flood and Jack Swallow were next up. Dubliner Flood stalked Swallow throughout, often pinning Swallow to the ropes with body shots. Swallow remained content to backpedal and soak up punishment for the full four rounds. The scoring was academic 40-36 by the sole scoring referee.
Former Irish amateur heavyweight star Adam Olaniyan dropped Czechian import Matej Hudak with a left uppercut just seconds before the end of the first round. The bell rang during the referee’s count but matters were waved off just as Hudak rose. Olaniyan improves to 4-0, 4 KOs while Hudak falls to 6-3, 6 KOs.
Opening the show at the iconic Croke Park in Dublin was an all Irish middleweight clash between Paul Ryan and Paddy Gallagher. The action appeared to be competitive and fairly even until late in the 5th round when a counter-right from Ryan landed flush on Ryan’s jaw, buckling his knees badly, but he managed to stay off the canvas and survive the round. In the end the scoring referee saw it: 58-55 for Gallagher, now 18-6-1, 10 KOs. Ryan falls to 11-3, 4 KOs.
UPDATE! After the Flood-Swallow fight was over, it was announced that Paul Ryan actually won his bout with Paddy Gallagher 58-55! So Ryan is now 12-2, 4 KOs, while Gallagher falls to 17-7-1, 10 KOs.
