Long time boxing judge John Stewart has passed away. For twenty five years, Stewart plied his trade all over the world. He was first licensed in 1977 by the state of Pennsylvania, followed by New Jersey in 1981. In over two decades, Stewart judged some 1,098 professional bouts. There were countless world titles fights among those he judged, estimated to be approximately 200. His first world title fight was the WBA light heavyweight title between champion Mike Rossman against Aldo Traversaro in 1978. His final judging assignment came in 2002 with the vacant IBF heavyweight title fight between Chris Byrd and Evander Holyfield (won by Byrd).

He was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame in 2023. Fightnews extends its condolences to the family and friends of John Stewart.
