Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced that there are plans to build a 50,000-capacity Olympic-standard stadium at the Borteyman Sports Complex by 2028.

Kofi Adams revealed that the project aims to transform the Borteyman Sports Complex, which hosted the 2023 African Games into a world-class sports hub.

“Currently we have secured lands at Borteyman around the Nungua farms, and the process of getting external funding to enable us to complete this construction has started.”

“This type of construction is different and most often than not, fabricated steels are used, and we have been assured by the contractors that if a financial and commercial agreement is finally met, they will use at least 24 months to execute the project.”

Kofi Adams further mentioned that the construction of the new stadium hasn’t started yet but they want to complete it before 2028.

“No foundation has been laid yet but an environmental impact assessment has been done to enable us to cut the sod and start the actual work on the site. We are sure it will be completed by 2028,” he concluded.

The minister revealed that the stadium which will have modern facilities for football, athletics, and ceremonies will bolster Ghana’s capacity to host major international events.
