    • Human remains found near car of missing woman

By HARRISON CHRISTIAN FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA

    Published: 23:09 EDT, 3 April 2025 | Updated: 23:29 EDT, 3 April 2025

Human remains have been discovered just 1km from where police located the abandoned vehicle of a Queensland mum who vanished over two months ago.

Investigators searching for Tayla Spies discovered the 29-year-old’s 2017 Toyota Hilux near Noorindoo, a town 460km west of Brisbane, about 3pm on Thursday.

The Hilux was found at a Yuleba-Surat Road property about five minutes’ drive from where the young mum was last seen.

Detective Chief Inspector Garry Watts told a press conference on Friday human remains had been located about 1km from the vehicle.

‘Although we cannot confirm at this stage that those remains are those of Tayla, we suspect they may be,’ Insp Watts said.

‘However a complete forensic examination will need to be conducted to verify that.

‘The next of kin of Tayla have been advised of this update.’

Detectives confirmed the ute was Ms Spies’ after investigators found items in the vehicle which belonged to the missing mum.

The location of the vehicle is a backroad deviation from the more direct route to Ms Spies’ hometown of Roma on the Carnarvon Hwy.

Ms Spies – pronounced ‘Speez’ – had spent the night before she went missing at the Windsor Hotel in Dalby and stopped at a service station in Condamine on the day she was last seen.

The mother-of-three was captured on CCTV at the service station and was later seen driving on the Carnarvon Highway on February 2.

Police had been searching a 9,000 square kilometre area of remote bushland around the towns of Surat, Yuleba, Meandarra and Glenmorgan before they found Ms Spies’ vehicle.

They have also accessed her social media accounts and were monitoring her bank accounts.

A friend of the Spies family had offered a $5,000 reward for information that could lead to her discovery.

Speaking on a video released by the Queensland Police last month, Tayla’s sister Rebecca Spies said the family had no knowledge of anybody having seen or spoken to her since she went missing.

‘We have no knowledge if she is OK. The pain and enormity of her absence increases with each each day that passes. And the worry is consuming us all,’ she said.

‘My sister Tayla is funny, brave, thoughtful and is always there for people when they need her. She loves her family wholeheartedly and never lets us forget it.’
