Over 250 pupils from five schools in Accra gathered at the Bank of Ghana’s Bank Square on October 31, 2025, for an interactive session on the history and evolution of the Ghanaian Cedi.

Students from Independence Avenue Basic School (1 & 2), St. George’s Anglican Basic School, Bishop Mixed Basic School, Accra Sempe School, and St. Barnabas Basic School participated in games and activities designed to make learning about currency both fun and engaging.

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Asiama encouraged the pupils to take their studies seriously, reminding them that they are the future leaders of the country.

He shared words of encouragement alongside his deputies, Dr Zakari Mumuni and Matilda Asante-Asiedu.

Cedi@60: BoG sees cedi as symbol of resilience and economic rebirth

On October 28, 2025, the Central Bank launched the Cedi@60 initiative, kicking off a year-long series of national events to reflect on the currency’s historic journey and its pivotal role in Ghana’s economic independence.

According to the BoG, the Cedi@60 milestone is not only a reflection on history but also an opportunity to rekindle public confidence in the national currency as a pillar of stability and national identity.

The event concluded with music, lunch, and lots of smiles, celebrating education, national pride, and Ghana’s rich monetary heritage.
