The body of a second woman has been found in the search for sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, who went missing in Aberdeen last month.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both aged 32, were last seen on CCTV on Market Street at Victoria Bridge in Aberdeen near the River Dee at about 2.12am on Tuesday January 7.

A woman’s body was recovered from the river at around 8am on Friday and while formal identification has yet to take place, the sisters’ family has been informed.

The body of a second woman was found in an area of the river near Victoria Bridge at around 9.05pm on Friday and was recovered from the water, Police Scotland said.

The woman has yet to be identified but the Huszti family has been informed.

Police said inquires are ongoing to establish what happened but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

Superintendent David Howieson said: ‘Our thoughts remain with the Huszti family and we are keeping them fully updated following these recoveries.

‘We know how much of an impact this has had in Aberdeen and much further afield and I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our investigation.’

Earlier, officers said the two women had visited the bridge where they were last seen the day before their disappearance.

They were seen at Victoria Bridge at around 2.50pm on January 6.

CCTV showed the sisters spent five minutes at the footpath and Victoria Bridge but did not engage with anyone else.

It also emerged a text message was sent from Henrietta’s mobile phone to the sisters’ landlady at 2.12am on January 7, from the area of Victoria Bridge, indicating they would not be returning to the flat.

The phone was then disconnected from the network and has not been active since, police said.

The following day, the sisters’ personal belongings were found in the flat and the landlady reported her concerns to police.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen on CCTV in Market Street after leaving their home in Aberdeen city centre on January 7 at around 2.12am

After visiting the bridge on January 6, CCTV footage showed the sisters making their way through the city centre, via the Union Square shopping centre, back to their flat in the Charlotte Street area.

Police said there was nothing to indicate they left it again until shortly before they were last seen at the River Dee.

When they were last seen on January 7, they crossed the bridge and turned right on to a footpath next to the river heading towards Aberdeen Boat Club.

Police treated the investigation as a missing persons inquiry rather than a criminal probe.

Mr Howieson previously said a theory was they had ‘entered the water for reasons unknown’.
