Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare
Black Stars Technical Advisor, Winfried Schaefer has thrown his full support behind goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, describing him as the best player in the Ghana Premier League.
Schaefer revealed that he has been actively monitoring domestic football, visiting league venues and engaging with coaches and players as part of efforts to strengthen the national team.
“Over the past two months, I have been visiting league venues and speaking with coaches and players. The best player I have seen is Benjamin Asare, and he is the Black Stars’ first choice goalkeeper,” Schaefer told Medeama FM.
The experienced German tactician stressed that the foundation of Ghanaian football remains rooted in the local league, urging players to recognize the opportunities available at home.
“The heart of football in Ghana is in the local league, not only with players in Europe,” he said.
Schaefer also challenged home based players to raise their performance levels if they aspire to earn national team call-ups.
“I urge all players to work hard if they want to earn a call-up into the Black Stars,” he added.
