The Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth, Sports, and Culture, Ernest Norgbey, has offered a unique perspective on the recent success of the Black Stars.
After enduring a challenging period, including failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Stars bounced back with spirited performances against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
With a new technical team in place, the squad secured six crucial points, significantly boosting their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
However, despite these achievements, Norgbey, in an interview with GH One TV, attributed the team’s success not to technical expertise but to strong motivation and the uplifting national spirit surrounding the squad.
“Personally, the success of the Black Stars is not because of technical expediency. I believe it is due to the motivation and aura of the country. I cannot attribute it to the technical bench,” he said.
Following the two critical wins against Chad and Madagascar, the Black Stars now sit atop the group standings with 15 points, three points ahead of second-placed Comoros.
