The Black Stars of Ghana have suffered a major set back in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifications after drawing against Chad on matchday 7 of the qualifiers.

Ghana after taking an early goal lead in the game were held to a 1-1 draw in 97 minutes of football at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena.

Jordan Ayew got his 6th goal in the qualifiers after connecting Kudus Mohammed’s pass into an empty net in the 17th minute of the game on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

However, with just a minute left to end the game in regulation time, Celestine Ecua got the equalizer for the home team after his shot deflected into the Ghana net.

Despite the draw, the Black Stars are still on top of Group I with 16 points but Comoros and Madagascar can reduce the points gap if they win their subsequent games.

Comoros remain the closest challengers with 12 points ahead of their clash against Mali late on Thursday, while top-seeded Mali are in danger of missing out after a slow start.

Madagascar will also host Central Africa Republic at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
