Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe, has said that the Black Stars’ poor performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers are unfortunate.

According to him, the team has been underperforming for quite some time now, and authorities have failed to take appropriate steps to avert the challenges, which have now worsened.

The former Black Stars management committee chairman noted that Ghana’s abysmal performance in the last two AFCONs makes the disqualification from the 2025 edition unsurprising but painful.

“Everyone associated with football is not happy about what has gone on, that Ghana will not be part of the assembly of African footballing nations at AFCON 2025. It’s very unfortunate and I think it is something that gives a lot of pain. I assess that it is an unfortunate situation and an unfortunate development.

“Of course, it was coming considering our performances in the past two AFCON tournaments. It was clear for all of us to see that things were not going well with the team. Our performances have not been anything to be proud of in the qualifiers. We saw signs and the signals were clear on the wall, so this is not entirely surprising,” he said according to ghanasoccernet.com.

This comes after the Black Stars, led by Otto Addo, failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, leading to public backlash.
