The Black Stars have intensified preparations in Puebla, Mexico, ahead of Friday’s international friendly against 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosts Mexico.
Ghana arrived in North America on Tuesday to begin preparations for the high-profile pre-World Cup encounter scheduled for May 22 as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical team are expected to use the match to assess the squad ahead of the announcement of Ghana’s final World Cup squad in the coming days.
Training sessions will continue on Wednesday and Thursday before the team takes on the Mexicans on Friday night. Players like Benjamin Asare, Solomon Agbasi, Razak Simpson, Salim Adams, Ibrahim Osman, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and others all took part in the first session.
While Barca Atletic duo Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro are reportedly expected to also join the team, French-based Augustine Boakye is expected to miss out as he still has some club actions to take care of.
The friendly is also expected to provide opportunities for several new and young talents hoping to secure places in both the Black Stars and the Black Meteors setup ahead of future assignments.
Despite the absence of some key senior players, Queiroz is still expected to demand a strong performance from his side as preparations gather momentum for the Mundial.
Following the Mexico game, the Portuguese tactician will announce his final squad for the friendly against Wolves before the team travels to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama at the BMO Field on June 17 before taking on England at the Boston Stadium on June 23.
The Black Stars will conclude their Group L fixtures against Croatia at the Lincoln Financial Field on June 27 as they seek a place in the knockout stage of the tournament.
