Renowned sports journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has said that the Black Stars perform better when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ruling the nation.

He asserted that a future NDC government would want to make a positive impression on football fans in Ghana; hence, they would want the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The chairman of the Beach Soccer Committee bemoaned the dwindling fortunes of the Black Stars in recent times, especially with the team’s inability to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking in an interview with GhOne TV, Yaw Ampofo noted that the team struggles less and performs better when the NDC is in government, considering past records.

“If the NDC wins the [2024] election, they would want the Black Stars to qualify for the World Cup. The team has a better track record under the NDC government,” he said.

Meanwhile, after failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, all attention has turned to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will resume in March 2025.

Ghana are in Group I alongside Mali, Comoros, Madagascar, the Central African Republic, and Chad.

After four matches played, the Black Stars won three and lost one, garnering nine points and lying second in the group, with Comoros leading on goal difference.

It remains to be seen if head coach Otto Addo will be allowed to continue his job and play the World Cup qualifiers after the AFCON fiasco.
