Otto Addo is Black Stars’ head coach

Ghana coach Otto Addo has travelled to Italy to offer his support to Tariq Lamptey, who is sidelined with a serious injury.

The Fiorentina defender recently suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury shortly after the last international break.

The setback required surgery and has ruled him out of action for several months, forcing his exclusion from Ghana’s squad for the final round of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.

Lamptey’s injury is a major blow for both club and country. The 25-year-old right-back secured a summer transfer to Fiorentina in hopes of reviving his career after an injury-plagued spell in England.

However, his new club has confirmed he will be sidelined for at least six months, a timeline that may even threaten his chances of featuring at the World Cup if Ghana secures qualification.

Addo’s visit underlines his commitment to player welfare beyond the pitch, offering Lamptey encouragement as he embarks on his recovery.

Ghana will qualify for the 2026 World Cup with four points from their remaining two matches.
