Ghana’s Black Stars have been handed a major boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the return of winger Ernest Nuamah from a long-term injury.

The 22-year-old is back in action after spending more than a year on the sidelines due to a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained on April 5, 2025. Nuamah missed a total of 54 matches during his 391-day absence but made his long-awaited comeback as a second-half substitute, playing the final six minutes at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

His return comes at a crucial time for Ghana, with preparations intensifying for the global tournament. The Black Stars have been drawn in a difficult group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, making squad depth and attacking quality essential.

Nuamah was one of Ghana’s standout performers during the qualification campaign prior to his injury, scoring two goals in five appearances and showcasing his pace, creativity, and finishing ability.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz will be encouraged by the winger’s return as he looks to strengthen his attacking options. Nuamah will now focus on regaining full fitness and sharpness ahead of the tournament, where he could play a pivotal role in Ghana’s campaign.
