Prosper Narteh Ogum is the head coach of the Black Starlets

Black Starlets coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says his target is to guide the team to qualify for the U-17 World Cup.

This comes after the former Asante Kotoko coach guided Ghana’s U-17 national team to book a place in the final of the ongoing WAFU B U-17 Championships.

The Black Starlets defeated Nigeria 2-0 on Tuesday night at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro. The win also guarantees the team’s participation in the U-17 AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco next year.

Despite guiding the team to book a place in the AFCON for the first time since 2017, Narteh Ogum says the target of the team is to play in the U-17 World Cup.

“The target is to qualify for the World Cup. Qualifying for the AFCON alone is not enough, but we want to go to Morocco and qualify for the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.

“I believe we have the players to achieve this target because it has been a while since we saw the Black Starlets at the AFCON and at the World Cup. We will go to Morocco and raise the flag of Ghana high and ensure that we make it to the World Cup.

“We will try to improve the squad before the AFCON because we have a target that we have to meet, and I will do that with the Ghana Football Association (GFA),” he added.

Ghana will face hosts Cote d’Ivoire on Friday, October 3, in the final. The Black Starlets will be seeking redemption, having lost 3-0 to the Ivorians in the group stage.
