Ghana’s Black Starlets earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Togo in their WAFU B U-17 AFCON qualifiers Group A opener, despite playing with 10 men from the third minute.

The early sending-off dealt a major blow to Ghana’s chances, but the team showed resilience throughout the match.

Captain Joseph Narbi gave Ghana a quick boost by scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute, putting the Black Starlets ahead.

Narbi’s strike demonstrated the side’s fighting spirit despite being a man down for almost the entire match.

After the early goal, the Black Starlets battled to maintain their lead but were unable to hold off Togo’s persistent attacks.

The hosts equalised, levelling the match at 1-1 — a scoreline that ultimately stood until full time.

Playing nearly a full game with a numerical disadvantage tested Ghana’s depth and discipline, but the Black Starlets showed determination and tactical awareness to secure a valuable point on the road.

The result keeps their hopes alive in the group stage of the competition.
