Black Satellites defender Aaron Essel says Ghana is approaching Sunday’s U-20 AFCON quarter-final against hosts Egypt as a final, stressing the team’s hunger to succeed.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference at the New Suez Stadium, Essel revealed the mood in camp is one of calm determination.

“For us, this is a final. The field will decide who wins, and we are determined to make sure it’s Ghana,” he said. “Preparations have gone very well. Everyone is focused and ready to deliver.”

The 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations serves as a qualification route to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and Ghana knows a win guarantees that spot. Essel believes sticking to Coach Desmond Ofei’s tactical plan will be key against a strong Egyptian side buoyed by home support.

“There’s no pressure on us,” he added. “We’ve prepared well and are approaching the game with a strong mentality.”

Ghana, four-time U-20 champions, are aiming to rekindle their golden days at this level. A win in Suez would push them one step closer.
