Ghana’s U20 men’s national team, the Black Satellites, have secured a spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship after a resilient 1-1 draw with host nation Togo on Wednesday.

The result saw Ghana top Group A, ensuring their place in the last four of the tournament.

The Black Satellites began their campaign with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Benin in their opening match. The hard-fought encounter kept fans on the edge of their seats as both teams showcased attacking football.

In their second match, Ghana stepped up their game, securing a convincing 2-0 win over Niger. The victory not only gave the Black Satellites their first three points of the tournament but also boosted their confidence as they continued their quest for the title.

In the final Group A clash on Wednesday, Ghana faced host nation Togo in what was expected to be a highly competitive encounter.

Knowing that a draw would be enough to secure their progression, the Black Satellites delivered a disciplined performance. Top forward Jerry Afriyie gave Ghana an early lead, finding the back of the net within the opening minutes of the match. However, Togo fought back and equalized later in the game, setting up a tense finish.

Despite the pressure from the hosts, Ghana held firm, earning the crucial point needed to top the group. The 1-1 result confirmed their place in the semi-finals, where they will face off against other top teams from the region.

The WAFU Zone B U20 Championship serves as a key qualifier for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations. Only the two finalists will earn a place in the continental tournament, making the stakes even higher for the Black Satellites as they move into the knockout stages.
