The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said that they are yet to receive the prize money for the Black Queens’ performance in the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Black Queens earned $350,000 in prize money after beating the Bayana Bayana’s of South Africa on penalties to secure the bronze medal in Morocco.

Speaking on the team’s prize money, Communications Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum in an interview with TV3 said they are yet to receive the money despite the competition ending a week ago.

“The money has not been paid yet. I don’t know the plan of the Executive Council, but you know that in competitions of this nature, whenever there is inflows, the government comes in,” he said.

Henry Asante Twum added that most of the expenses they incurred while preparing for the tournament was paid for by the GFA.

“But there ought to be an engagement. So, we will engage the ministry. If they call for budget expenditure or whatever, we will show it to the ministry,” he said.

“We played in Cote d’Ivoire. The FA took care of everything including the two friendly matches. We travelled to Senegal, two friendly matches; the FA took care of everything. We spent 10 days in Morocco before the tournament, same,” he added.
